During puberty you often start fantasising about someone you like. It could be a boy or a girl, a friend, someone you know, or even a teacher at school or a film star or pop star. And you might find you fantasise about someone of the same sex as you.

If you find yourself falling in love with someone of the same sex, and feel like you’d like to make love with them, you’re probably homosexual, lesbian or bisexual.

If you’re homosexual, you’re attracted to someone of the same sex as you. Homosexual men are often called gay, and homosexual women are usually called lesbian. If you’re attracted to people of either sex, you’re bisexual. And if you’re attracted to people of the opposite sex, you’re heterosexual.

For some people sexuality isn’t just a matter of one or the other, but more like a sliding scale. You can be attracted to someone of the same sex even though you wouldn’t think of yourself as homosexual or lesbian.
